What is Exfoliation?
Proper exfoliation removes dead skin cells and polishes your skin’s surface to allow better absorption of the products that follow.
Exfoliation is the key to vibrant skin. Regular exfoliation removes the hard keratin layer and build-up, bringing luminosity and clarity to the skin. For younger skin, exfoliation unplugs pores and keeps the skin clear and smooth. For mature skin, exfoliation is essential to help minimize fine lines, remove dry flakes, and to revive tired skin.
How to Exfoliate.
It is important to exfoliate the skin at least once or twice per week to help remove dead skin cells and dirt that can dull your complexion. After cleansing, apply the exfoliant suited to your skin type and allow to dry for 5 to 10 minutes. Use a face cloth moistened with lukewarm water to gently scrub off using a circular motion. Rinse thoroughly with water.

Physical Exfoliation V. Chemical Exfoliation
- Physical Exfoliation. Physical exfoliation utilizes products with tiny granules that physically slough off dead cells from the skin’s surface, revealing the healthier skin underneath. An example of a physical exfoliant is the Stone Crop Oxygenating Fizzofoliant.
- Chemical Exfoliation. A chemical exfoliant harnesses the power of naturally occurring enzymes and acids to remove dead skin cells at a much deeper level by gently breaking down the “glue” that holds the dead skin cells together. The VitaSkin Exfoliating Peels are chemical exfoliants.
- Both Physical AND Chemical Exfoliation. The ingredients in the Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant act as both a physical and a chemical exfoliant.
